Oslo Cruise Port: The Complete 2026–2027 Guide for Cruise Passengers

About Oslo: Norway's Capital on the Fjord
Oslo sits at the head of the Oslofjord in southeastern Norway, a city of around 700,000 people (1.6 million in the greater metro area) that manages to feel both thoroughly modern and deeply rooted in history. The Royal Palace, the medieval Akershus Fortress, and Karl Johans gate — Oslo's grand main boulevard — anchor the historic centre, while the waterfront has been dramatically transformed over the past two decades into one of Scandinavia's most vibrant urban spaces.
Oslo punches well above its size culturally. The city is home to more than 50 museums, the world's largest sculpture park created by a single artist, a world-famous expressionist art collection, and some of the most architecturally striking buildings in Northern Europe. It is also, by global standards, an expensive city — but most of the best things to do (the fortress, Vigeland Park, the Opera House roof, the waterfront) cost nothing at all.
For cruise passengers, Oslo's great advantage is its walkability. The city is compact, well-signed, English is universally spoken, and the public transport system is excellent for anything beyond walking distance.

The Port of Oslo: Terminals & How It Works
Oslo cruise ships dock right in the heart of the city at berths alongside Akershus Fortress, on the western bank of the Oslofjord. All four cruise piers are within or close to the city centre — there is no tendering. The port authority is Port of Oslo KF, and the cruise terminal address is Akershusstranda 35, 0150 Oslo.
Søndre Akershus Quay — central, right by the fortress
The most central berth, positioned directly beneath Akershus Fortress. Walking distance to Aker Brygge (5 minutes), the Nobel Peace Centre (5 minutes), and Karl Johans gate (15 minutes). Hurtigruten and smaller expedition vessels typically dock here.
Vippetangen Quay — central, close to the Old Town
Located just east of Akershus, also very central. A 15-minute walk to City Hall and the town centre. Used primarily by smaller and mid-size vessels.
Revierkaia — facing the Opera House
The main berth for mid-size and larger cruise ships, positioned directly facing the Oslo Opera House. Walking distance to the Opera House (5 minutes), the Munch Museum (10 minutes), and Aker Brygge (15 minutes). This is the primary working cruise terminal with a tourist information desk, souvenir shops, coffee shop, currency exchange, free Wi-Fi, and taxi ranks.
Filipstadkaia — west of centre
The westernmost berth, around 3 kilometres from the city centre, used for the largest vessels. Not within walking distance, but a 10-minute taxi ride or 20-minute bus journey to the centre.
Port tip: Check your cruise line's daily program the evening before Oslo — it will specify your terminal. "Akershus" or "Revierkaia" means you're central. "Filipstad" means you'll need transport to the centre.

Oslo Airport Gardermoen (IATA: OSL) is Norway's main international gateway, located approximately 50 kilometres northeast of the city centre and the cruise port. It serves 27+ million passengers annually with connections to 150+ international airports via SAS, Norwegian Air Shuttle, British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, and many more.

Private transfer with MyNordicTrips (recommended)
Door-to-door from your cruise pier to the departure terminal. Your driver tracks your ship's schedule and is waiting at the gangway — no queuing for taxis, no lugging bags onto the train. Journey time is 40–50 minutes in normal traffic (allow more in July–August peak). Available 24 hours.

Flytoget Airport Express Train
The fastest public option. The Flytoget runs every 10 minutes from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) to Gardermoen in 19–22 minutes. From Revierkaia or Akershus berths it's a 15-minute walk to Oslo S. Total journey: around 35–40 minutes. Tickets cost approximately NOK 230 (around £17 / €20). You can check in luggage and print baggage tags aboard the train.
Flybussen airport bus
Runs from Oslo Bus Terminal (next to Oslo S) to Gardermoen approximately every 30 minutes, taking 45–50 minutes. Around NOK 230.

Best for: Everyone · Cost: Free (roof) · Time: 30–60 minutes
Vigeland Sculpture Park ⭐ Don't miss
The world's largest sculpture park by a single artist. Best for: Food, shopping, waterfront atmosphere · Cost: Free to wander · Time: 1–2 hours
